A Practical Guide to Valuing Employment Discrimination Claims

Published 5 September 2023

A comprehensive guide on how to value discrimination claims in the Employment Tribunal. Published annually this user friendly guide is an ideal point of reference for lawyers and HR professionals alike.

Written in partnership with Chelsea Brooke-Ward, A Practical Guide to Valuing Employment Discrimination Claims is designed to help employment lawyers and HR professionals confidently value discrimination claims in the Employment Tribunal.

Published annually, it’s a practical, easy-to-use reference guide that brings together more than 160 case summaries covering the main types of prohibited conduct, from age discrimination to racial harassment. Alongside valuation precedents, we’ve included practical guidance on using case law effectively, relevant legislation, checklists and strategies to help you achieve the best possible outcomes for your clients.

Whether you’re experienced in employment law or just starting out, I wanted this book to be a resource you can reach for time and time again.

Thriving at Life

Published 22 November 2022

Thriving at Life is an interactive well-being journal dedicated to helping you understand the importance of self-care, gratitude, sleep, healthy habits and much more!

Thriving at Life is a wellbeing journal that came from my own experiences of looking after my mental health while navigating life with ADHD. After trying countless wellbeing journals, I realised none of them quite reflected what I needed, so I decided to create one that did.

The first part of the journal explores the foundations of wellbeing, including sleep, self-care, gratitude and building healthy habits. These are the things I believe make the biggest difference when it comes to looking after your mental health and creating lasting change.

The second half is your space to make the journal your own. With 12 weeks of guided check-ins, reflections, prompts and practical exercises, you can work through it at your own pace and in whatever order feels right for you. Each week encourages you to reflect on different areas of your life, helping you make small, meaningful changes that support your wellbeing.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve never picked up a journal before or you’ve been journalling for years. The most important step is simply getting started.

Writing has given me another way to share what I’ve learned throughout my career and my own personal journey. Whether I’m writing about employment law or mental health and wellbeing, my aim is always the same: to create practical, accessible resources that genuinely help people.

And for me, speaking is simply another extension of that same purpose. Whether I’m on stage or on the page, I love bringing these same conversations – employment law, mental health, neurodiversity and building a career or business on your own terms – to life for different audiences. If you’d like me to speak at your event, conference or for your team, you can find out more and get in touch on my Public Speaking page.

[A Practical Guide to Valuing Employment Discrimination Claims] has been SUPER helpful, especially the way the discrimination cases have been separated by protected characteristics and you can see how they fall under the different Vento Bands. The case summaries help to understand the basis for the Tribunal’s decisions, and I love the tips. I will definitely be referring to the book a lot more to assist in valuing discrimination cases.

[A Practical Guide to Valuing Employment Discrimination Claims] is a valuable resource for understanding and assessing remedies in discrimination claims, in particular injury to feelings. It is especially a useful toolkit for Claimants’ representatives and litigants in person when calculating compensation or engaged in settlement negotiations.
